If you have not been living under a rock for the past week, you have heard of the name Jeremy Lin and what he has done for the New York Knicks. This has been one amazing sports story as of late that keeps getting constant attention. He has even caught the eye of President Obama, who is saying he is very impressed. Many are also calling him the Tim Tebow of NBA.
Leading his team to seven straight wins and now a .500 record (15-15), LIN-sanity has averaged a near double-double with 24.4 points and 9.1 assists per game. He has also accomplished something that no other player in the history of the game has ever done in their first 5 starts, scoring 134 points. Those are Super-LIN-tendo numbers!
What is even more staggering is that these numbers have been put up without the likes of superstar Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire who was recently inserted back into the lineup due to the death of his brother. God be with him and his family. Amare has made it evident that he can mesh with Jeremy Lin, yet Knicks fans are very uncertain that it will be as easy when Carmelo comes back. I guess we will have to wait and see.
In the world today, it is very easy for fans to interact with their favorite athletes because of social media. Jeremy Lin has learned real fast as he has went from 20,000 to 380,000 plus followers on Twitter in less then a week. The kid must be doing something right. After every interview he has had on this winning streak, he has thanked god, said he is blessed to be in the position he is in, and critiqued himself by saying he could have done something better. I would say humble is an understatement.
Increasing ticket sales, TV ratings, and the overall NBA market have benefited tremendously from the Jeremy Lin saga. Going from sleeping on his brothers couch because of the possibility of being traded, to rising star in the NBA, Lin has taken advantage of a one in a life time opportunity. Open up that check book New York. No matter what team you root for, and myself being the Laker fan that I am, I will be cheering for the LIN-sanity to contiune, only hoping he doesn’t torch my Lakers next time like he did recently going for 38 points and 7 assists. The kid has it, I mean come on he went to Harvard. Go Jeremy go go go! You can catch Jeremy Lin and the Knicks next game Friday, where they will host the New Orleans Hornets at 8PM on ESPN.
