Caramel Infused Vodka and Cocktails

Here is another cool infusion from the mixology lab! Premier Innovation’s lead Mixologist, Tara Shinn, noticed a surge in caramel vodka recipes going around the internet. Being the liquid scientist that that she is, she came up with an awesome caramel infused vodka recipe that is far superior to all the cheap branded versions available. It’s very easy to make bringing just a bit of creaminess to cocktails without having to add any dairy products. If you like, you can even turn it into a salted caramel vodka, but either way it’s defiantly a crowd pleaser!

Infusing the Caramel with the Vodka

Start by chopping 20 caramel creams into little pieces, then add them to a clean and empty 750ml bottle. The finer you chop the candies, the faster the caramel will infuse and become one with the vodka once added.

Add the Vodka

Fill the bottle with a premium vodka (one that you would actually drink straight), and shake very well. You’ll be able to see the candies starting to dissolve right away, but you’ll need to shake it 3x a day for about 5 days before they dissolve completely. It’s a process to create this infusion but well worth it in the end.

After they dissolve completely you can add a pinch of salt to the entire bottle. The salt is a great addition as it supercharges your tastebuds and will make the caramel flavor more pronounced. Now that you have a true carmel infused vodka to share with all of your friends, you also need some custom caramel inspired cocktails to create. Enjoy!

Caramel Caucasian
1 1/4 oz caramel infused vodka
1 1/4 oz coffee liqueur
3/4 oz cream or half & half
Shake all ingredients over ice in a cocktail shaker and strain into a rocks glass with fresh ice. 

Caramel Apple-tini
1 1/2 oz caramel infused vodka
1 1/2 oz apple schnapps
Shake all ingredients over ice in a cocktail shaker and add to a caramel sauce drizzled cocktail glass. 

Caramel Cooler
1 1/2 oz caramel infused vodka
1 cup of ice
1 cup of vanilla ice cream
salt (optional)
First take a hurricane or tall glas an rotate the outer rim in vanilla ice cream, then dip in salt to coat. Add caramel infused vodka, ice, and vanilla ice cream to a blender, blend until smooth, and pour into the salt crusted glass.
