Anyway back to the subject at hand. I don’t care which gender is superior at math, but I do care that any girl who is (or pretends to be) bad at numbers, counting, adding etc., is not a girl that I want working as a Promotional Model. I think the stereotype is obvious for any type of Beer Girl or Promo Model: The prettier the girl- the dumber she is.  Now that is a stereotype that bothers me. I want all of my models to be as attractive as possible, while yet still knowing how to count and make change without a calculator.

In the Promotional Modeling industry, math skills are probably not going to be assessed on any application. However, they will be crucial in many situations in the field. If a special or sale price is a key factor in the details of the product/brand you are promoting, it would be ideal if you could tell a potential customer on the spot how many two, three, or even ten of these items would cost. If you can’t double any number, you should probably be fired.  I know, I know, all those “9s” are hard to double (15.99 x 2 = OMG TOO HARD) but here is a tip: ROUND UP then double, or multiply.  $15.99 is pretty much 16, and 16 times 2 is 32. HOORAY! Now you can just tell the customer that they should buy two (Wait what are we selling? Oh yes, Liters of Clique Vodka in this instance.) Anyway, the customer should buy TWO bottles for $32 instead of the competing brand that sells two .750mL for the same price, since two liters is a larger volume than double 750milliliters. Also, a case of liquor has 12 bottles in it, so it would be great research to multiply the bottle cost times 12, to know the price of a case ($191.88 FYI).

In another instance, I worked a promotion recently where we had to sell raffle tickets. Each time we had a bag to sell, the price changed. So I went from selling individual tickets that were $3 (odds) to $2 (evens) to $5 (odds again) and had to make the appropriate change for the number of tickets people wanted to buy in a hurry. Any mistakes I made were coming out of my pocket as 8 of us girls split a percentage of total sales, and if we turned in the wrong amount of money for tickets, we would be paying the difference out of our profits.  Preventing 7 other girls from being angry at you is a pretty good motivator to beef up your math skills for the day!

So, whether you are promoting a value priced vodka or selling raffle tickets; math skills are essential to being a successful Promotional Model. It’s 2012 and no one thinks dumb girls are attractive anymore. You may be so incredibly hot that you think the customer won’t notice your errors, but giving the wrong change or misleading a customer on price WILL be noticed by someone: your boss. If you need any tips, tricks, or help when you are working; don’t be afraid to ask! Any girl with math skills is 2 Brazillian times hotter than one without.

Screw the metric system though. No one needs to know that.

Grubhub.com was started in 2004 out of Chicago by Mike Evans and Matt Maloney.  After a night of drinking at one of their local bars, they had the brilliant thought “Why is there not a web-site to tell you who delivers?” something I am sure we can all relate to. Well they went forward with their drunken idea and started the website in Chicago, moving to San Francisco and then also to Boston. This is a helpful resource for people taking culinary courses, as well. From there, you can easily place your order online or by phone. Choose from one of their online restaurants, select the items you’d like to order from the menu with a click. Once you’re through with ordering, click the green “Finish Ordering” button on the left and follow the checkout instructions from there. There’s no extra charge to you either, Grub Hub makes their money by charging the restaurants for every order that  they provide to them from the grubhub.com website.
