This Is The End Movie Review

Should you see This Is The End? Yes, this was luckily not one of the few highly anticipated movies that fell into the terrible movie category. (Cough, Cough, The Purge and The Hangover, Cough.) I am always a fan of an original element in a movie and not only did they accomplish that with their version of an apocalyptic storyline, but by also very much with the characters within the movie. First, I’ll go over what This Is The End is about:

This Is The End Movie Synopsis:

Jay Baruchel flies into Los Angeles to stay with his friend Seth Rogen for the weekend. It just so happens that this same weekend, James Franco is hosting a huge party at his newly designed house in Hollywood. Even though Jay does not want to go, Seth convinces him to go and hang out with all his Hollywood friends.

After a series of strange and catastrophic events ultimately destroy Los Angeles, six actors are left to survive on their own in James Franco’s house. As the world unravels outside, dwindling supplies and cabin fever threaten to tear apart the friendships inside. Eventually, they are forced to leave the house, facing their fate and the true meaning of friendship and redemption.

Starring: James Franco, Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson with Michael Cera and Emma Watson

My Thoughts:

The best part about This Is The End is each characters role. Every character in the movie was just a strange and abstract version of themselves in real life. So that I do not ruin any funny parts of the movie, I will not list all of the Hollywood actors portrayed in this film but there are a lot. One of my favorite characters was Michael Cera’s coked out version of himself.

I’ve only had the chance to hangout with one of the actors in this film and that is Jay Baruchel. While he was in town filming She’s Out Of My League, he needed “something” and I along with the help of a friend was able to help facilitate that “something.” His character in the movie seemed exactly like the person I met while he was in town. A very cool element indeed. As for Seth Rogen, James Franco, Jonah Hill and others, they all played exaggerated versions of themselves it seemed. Jay hates Jonah Hill and Jonah Hill secretly hates Jay but takes the kill them with kindness approach to interacting with him. James Franco has a weird attraction to Seth Rogen while Craig Robinson and Danny McBride literally seem exactly the same as most characters they have played.

Was the movie funny? Yes but honestly not as funny as I anticipated. A few parts of the movie were absolutely hilarious while other scenes were sort of dry. In the end, it turns out to be a hilarious story with a lot of unexpected cameos and a couple of the largest demon dicks you will ever see in your life time. One question is left unanswered, what the F happens to Emma Watson? If she is reading this, I would like to take you out to a very romantic dinner to discuss this. Do not worry, I can travel to you if that’s an issue.
