So the Guardians of the Galaxy teaser trailer was released yesterday morning so that Jimmy Kimmel could break the first official full trailer on his show. In the very same day I proclaimed Marvel’s prowess and seemingly powerhouse streak of doing pretty much everything right with its comic book films recently, I’m not sure this trailer hits the mark as the BIG REVEAL Guardians of the Galaxy needed. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a great trailer and I’m super still stoked on the movie Check it out below, but keep reading because I’m going to firm up what Marvel was shooting for here.
Guardians isn’t exactly the most well-known series from Marvel, so I think they were looking to introduce characters a little too much instead of just showing what we can expect from the movie as a whole. When you look at The Avengers franchise, the mood is split. Iron Man and Thor used a ton of sarcasm and humor to help develop hard-to-believe stories and characters, and make them seem more real-to-life. The Incredible Hulk with Ed Norton and Captain America were delivered in much more serious tones.
Guardians of the Galaxy truly falls pretty dead center in that respect but clearly the Thor and Iron Man tactics are present. It seemed like Marvel wanted to get the humor out there and put it a little too far upfront in this trailer. With John C. Reilly almost looking like the star of the entire trailer, and we’re not talking the Gangs of New York-style John C. Reilly, I would say Marvel fell short here. Not on the movie. Not even on the trailer in general, but just as the FIRST trailer.
So lets do this right. Lets do what Marvel wanted to do, so they can speed this train up and show us what Guardians of the Galaxy really has to offer. Our friends over at IGN did it pretty well, if I do say so myself.
Who Are The Guardians of the Galaxy?
Now that you have a better idea of what to expect going forward, what we should be taking away from this is that we’re about to have a brand new awesome Marvel franchise, that will most likely lead us into the third chapter of The Avengers. That is A-OK by me. But you already knew that. What are you guys thinking? Light up the comments and lets hear what the peanut gallery has to say!
