Your Move Girl Talk: Eminem Goes Berzerk In New Video

It is like Christmas come early for me with getting to see Eminem in New York this summer and then having new music released from him too! There are some mixed reviews of his latest single though; “Berzerk,” off of his highly anticipated upcoming album. However,  I haven’t heard much about the video that just dropped for it. So what do I think? I think Marshall Mathers just one-upped the master mixer Girl Talk at his own game.

I watched it as soon as it dropped, thanks to a good look from my boss Isaac. Also, thanks to Isaac, I had a heads up on who the old bearded guy in the video was: Rick Rubin.

How did this guy get past my radar? His look is somewhere between a homeless dude that creeps the SouthSide or a Rock’N’Roll old timer I might see on a motorcyle down at the 31st St Pub. He’s produced songs for some of my favorite artists. This lineup is insane; he’s worked with the Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, Public Enemy, Run–D.M.C., Tom Petty,Black Sabbath, Trouble, Slipknot,  Slayer, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Mars Volta, Jay-Z,Danzig, Dixie Chicks,  Metallica, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Weezer, Linkin Park, The Cult, Neil Diamond,  Mick Jagger, System of a Down, Rage Against the Machine, Melanie C,  Audioslave, Sheryl Crow, The Avett Brothers, ZZ Top, Lana Del Rey, Adele,  Kanye West, on and Johnny Cash. I think knowing or not knowing who he is, it was still pretty hilarious to see this old guy trying to look tough while a young whipper snapper raps. Opposites much?

The video is fast past- and aside from Em’s rapping, the other scenes are shown in reverse but they fit perfectly to the beat. Thanks to a post at Complex Music I was able to easily name the other celeb appearances shown throughout. Those include: Kendrick LamarKid RockSlaughterhouse, and The Alchemist. Check that blog to see if you recognize the samples a true Girl Talk Fan would appreciate!

Fans of some of the music sampled within Berzerk seemed in an outrage over the Beastie Boys track,  but I only view it as an homage.  Watch the video below and let me know what you think:

If you’re looking for a little deeper meaning of the song title- the first definition of berserk means what you would expect; “going violently or destructively  frenzied; wild; crazed; deranged” which of course fits the Eminem we know so well. However the second definition is even better: Berserker is an ancient  Norse warrior who fought with frenzied rage in battle, possibly induced by  eating hallucinogenic mushrooms. I thought that was pretty funny! Comment below or tweet me your thoughts on the video!
